Introduction to Young Life in Sweden

Join us in making a difference in the lives of teens in Sweden!
Dear Friend:
Young Life Sweden is part of an international, non-denominational Christian organization and has a program designed to address the needs of teens in Sweden. It is our hope to reach out to teens who are not interested in spiritual issues by walking with them through the turbulent times of early adolescence. Please consider this letter as an introduction to our program and to respectfully ask you to support this beginning ministry across Sweden.
Young Life has been making a difference in the lives of teens in communities around the world since it was founded in 1941.  The mission of Young Life is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. While Young Life was originally established to meet the needs of high school students, the mission now includes ministry to middle school students through a program called Wyldlife. Programs have also been established to support the needs of university students, multi-cultural youth, teen moms and to special needs youth. Young Life continues to use its proven methodologies which include:
Contact work - Building relationships and earning the trust and friendship of teenagers by meeting them where they are and caring for them with God’s love.
Club - A relaxed, safe and fun setting where kids and leaders gather to spend time together and where leaders share a message about Christ in terms teens can understand.
Campaigners – A small group Bible Study for kids who have responded to the message of Jesus and learn what it means to follow Him, grow in their faith and reach out to their friends.
Camp - An environment where Christ’s message can be heard and teenagers can experience “the best week of their life” with high adventure, fun, great food and excellent speakers. Camp also breaks down barriers, to show kids that “Jesus followers” can have fun.
Committee – A group of local adults who are committed to Young Life's mission to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. They also support the local Young Life ministry financially, help with fundraising, provide accountability and offer encouragement.
Young Life has a heart for the lost and, with our particular methodologies; we are entering the darkened spiritual landscape of Youth around the world, with a breath of fresh air. The needs are great but not insurmountable. For the country of Sweden, we have plans laid that include a strong vision and strategy.

We are beginning the foundational work to establish Young Life this year (2013) in Sweden.

  • We will begin reaching out to students with our trained volunteer leaders to invite them to clubs in Stockholm and Vallentuna.
  • We have plans to start a Young Life café in Stockholm and Vallentuna in the near future.
  • In 2014, we will begin taking teens to camps from our outreach ministries in Sweden. When teens come to camp, and the word spreads about the experiences of adventure, and fun in an environment where they feel unconditional love; ministries grow.
  • We fully expect to be able to expand Young Life work across the city of Stockholm beginning in 2015.
  • All along the way, it will be imperative to continue training new leaders who have a calling to reach the teens in and around other cities in Sweden.
  • Within the next 5 years, we foresee the beginning of an established work in the 10 large cities in Sweden.
  • As we establish our summer camping program, we will attract and invite not only Swedish youth, but those of neighboring countries including Latvia and Ukraine.
Our trained leaders are individuals who come alongside adolescents during some of the most challenging years as they are faced with hard decisions about drugs, alcohol, sex, peer pressure and bullying. They are sometimes the only adult who cares and understands their struggles, who will listen to them and give them good information to make positive decisions.  It is out of these relationships that adult leaders “win the right” to communicate God’s love and help them become young men and women of integrity, responsibility and character. Currently across the country of Sweden, there is not a program designated specifically to help these teens.  Young Life strives to fill this void now and into the future. We believe that by providing direction, leadership, mentoring and encouragement these kids will make better decisions about life, friends, family, faith, education and their future.
We trust you will give us the opportunity to share with you our vision for making a difference in the lives of the thousands of teens across Sweden through our best resource; well-trained indigenous leaders who have a heart for the youth and want to share the Gospel in a way that is relevant and life changing for teenagers.
